万民涂炭
涂炭：烂泥和炭火，比喻极其困苦的境遇。
❍ 《尚书·仲虺之诰》：“有夏昏德，民坠涂炭。”
◆ 后用“万民涂炭”形容广大百姓陷入极其困苦的境地。
❍ 明·罗贯中《三国演义》六回：“见紫微垣中白气漫漫，[孙]坚叹曰：‘帝星不明，贼臣乱国，万民涂炭，京城一空！’言讫，不觉泪下。”
❍ 清·陈忱《水浒后传》二四回：“却说金人羁留二帝，并后妃宗室，尽驱归北，因追索金银缎匹未完，屯扎在驼牟冈，其时四野萧条，万民涂炭。”
